How to choose a web developer in Morocco: 8 questions to ask
Zakariae Alliouate

Whether you run a shop in Meknes, a restaurant in Marrakech, or a company in Casablanca, your website is often the first thing a customer checks. Prices and promises vary a lot, so here are the questions I'd ask any developer — including me — before signing.
1. Can I see live websites you built?
Screenshots are easy to fake; live websites are not. Ask for links you can open on your own phone, and check that they load quickly and work. A good developer is proud to show real projects and to explain what they built on each one.
2. Who will own the domain, hosting, and code?
Your domain name and hosting accounts should be registered in your name, or transferred to you at launch. Ask for the full source code too. If the relationship ends, you should be able to hand the project to someone else without starting from zero.
3. Will it work perfectly on phones?
Most of your visitors will arrive on a smartphone, often from Instagram, Facebook, or WhatsApp. Ask the developer to show you their past work on a phone, not just on a laptop: menus, forms, and checkout must be easy to use with one thumb.
4. Can the site be in Arabic and French?
In Morocco, customers search and read in Arabic, French, and sometimes English. A serious multilingual site has a separate address for each language and a real right-to-left layout for Arabic — not just a translated text squeezed into a French design.
5. How fast will it load?
Slow websites lose visitors and rank lower on Google. Ask how images and fonts will be optimized, and test the developer's past sites with Google PageSpeed Insights. On mobile, a page should be usable in a couple of seconds.
6. Will Google be able to find it?
A beautiful site that nobody finds doesn't bring clients. Ask what is included for SEO: page titles and descriptions, a sitemap, structured data, clean URLs, and connection to Google Search Console. For local businesses, a Google Business Profile matters just as much as the website.
7. How will customers contact me or order?
Many Moroccan customers prefer WhatsApp and cash on delivery. Make sure the developer understands this and can add a WhatsApp button or ordering flow, clear contact information, and — for online stores — the payment options your customers actually use.
8. What happens after launch?
Ask who fixes bugs, updates content, and keeps the site secure after it goes live, and under which conditions. Clear answers here avoid most disappointments later.
If a developer answers these eight questions clearly, you're in good hands. If you'd like my answers for your own project, send me a message — I'm happy to look at what you need.
